Thought Process Behind the Development of Attorneys With Swag

Most shows that dive into the lives of public service attorneys are overly dramatized, unrealistic, or depressing. Either it's a law and order type of show or a documentary about the wrongfully convicted or about how someone got away with murder. Additionally, there are rarely any minority characters that look like the demographic we represent.

We have put so much time and effort into this project because this show is necessary for two reasons. The first is to give young men and women of color the motivation they need to make a change in their neighborhoods. All too often we are told what we can't do and why we can't do it. And attorneys all too often focus on the road ahead of them rather than the road that got them to where they are. And THAT is the road that matters. That is the most important road. The struggle is what teaches you (and others trying to be like you) how to make it to your goals. So, we wanted to create a show that was very candid, practical, and relatable so that people are inspired to succeed.

The second reason why this show is necessary is because, even if you have no interest in becoming a lawyer or working in the criminal justice system, knowledge is power. Therefore, if you do not understand how the system works, you will fall victim to it. KNOWING YOUR RIGHTS IN LOWER INCOME COMMUNITIES IS NOT OPTIONAL! IT IS NECESSARY! At the very least, we will be teaching people their rights in a non-classroom, non-traditional fashion. In other words, this show is about learning.... with SWAG.

If you have topics or questions you would like discussed, let us know!

Sincerely,
Everett K. Hopkins, Esq.
