Andre Watson, Esq.

Andre is a New York City public defender who represents people arrested who cannot afford an attorney. He also works with the Legal Aid Society Community Justice Unit to provide access to legal information and help reduce the number of shootings and violent crimes throughout the city.

Andre has always had an interest in the law and that interest was reinforced when he went to college at Boston University. “I wanted to be a lawyer since I was about ten years old. I know that our community needs more minority lawyers and I believed that becoming a lawyer was a great way to serve my community,” Andre says. After college, he then interned at the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem and then attended and graduated from Cardozo School of Law.

“My goal is to help recreate a society where people aren’t criminalized by how they look or where they live,” says Andre. “I also want to make sure that everyone has access to sufficient resources and legal information. Lawyers should be readily accessible to everyone – not just when a person is in trouble, but well before.”

Andre’s mission strikes at the heart of Attorneys with Swag and what we are all about: we must empower our people with an understanding of the law to better our community! The only way to do that is to make the law fun, entertaining and easily digestible which is the AWS way.
